MIKE SMITH 1943 - 2008


Mike suffered a serious fall at his home in Spain in 2003 which left him paralysed, after a long stay in hospital in England he passed away on 28th February 2008.


Michael George Smith was born on the 6th of December in Edmonton, Middlesex. He was the only child of parents George and Maud. After leaving school,Mike worked for a finance company. His first public appearance was at the Cuckoo Hall Youth Club.His first serious group was the Dave Clark Five. While with the Dave Clark Five he played piano, electric organ and guitar and was also the lead singer.

After the Dave Clark Five disbanded,he played with "Dave Clark and Friends" for a few years.Later,he formed a duo with ex Manfred Mann singer Mike d'Abo and also made a number of solo records.Mike wrote a number of successful advertising jingles and also acted as a producer for singers Michael Ball and Shirley Bassey.

Mike had one son,James who unfortunately lost his life in a diving accident in June 2003.


Awards and Achievements

As producer for the singer Michael Ball, Mike was awarded two gold discs for the albums:-

Michael Ball "The Musicals"

As a producer and singer Mike won awards for his "jingles" for Capital Radio.

As a singer Mike was awarded a Gold Disc for the Musical:-

"Evita"

Mike Smith was also the youngest person ever ( 13 years old ) to pass the entrance exam to Trinity Music College, London.
