Unreleased

A look at some of the unreleased tracks recorded by the DC5.

Tottenham Royal Audition , 8 track acetate

Probably the earliest DC5 recording in existence, this is the demo record the group did for Mecca as part of their audition for a place on the Mecca Ballroom circuit. The tracks are mainly instrumentals and include the first version of "Chaquita" which was recorded as "Cocheata. The first track on the "A" side is "An Instrumental" the first recording ever written by Lenny Davidson. Another interesting track is "Stranger On The Shore" featuring Mike Smith on xylophone. This is the only known copy of this demo and belongs to Lenny Davidson who provided the info and photo.

"Twist and Shout" / "Doo-Dah , acetate of unreleased 45

As well as writing songs for the DC5 Ron Ryan was also looking out for material that the Band could cover. He heard 'Twist and Shout' and felt it had everything needed to be a hit, so he played it to Dave on his guitar and eventually the DC5 recorded it in early 1963. However both the Beatles and Brian Poole and the Tremeloes had also recorded the song and released their versions before the DC5's. So rather than waste the backing track, Dave asked Ron to write new lyrics to try and make it sound like a completely new song.'

Ron then wrote "No Time To Lose" and the vocals were added onto the "Twist and Shout" backing track.

This acetate is the only known copy of the DC5 performing "Twist and Shout" and still belongs to Ron Ryan.

"Nineteen Days" 11 track album with 5 unreleased tracks.

I've called this LP "Nineteen Days" purely because that is the first track on the "A" side and it is the only track released as an "A" side in its own right. There is no evidence to say that this would have been the album's name. The five unreleased tracks are:-

Come Back Home

It'll Take A Little Time

Can't Get You Out Of My Mind

You Belong To Me

Lower Your Pride

The album has so far only appeared in "Emidisc" acetate form and was previously owned by Lenny Davidson who wrote the five unreleased songs. The approximate year of recording would be 1966.

Side One Side Two

Nineteen Days Can't Get You Out Of My Mind

Little Bit Strong Lovin' So Good

Come Back Home Picture Of You

It'll Take A Little Time You Belong To Me
